    Synthace Named a 2022 UK’s Best Workplaces™ for Women

The 2022 UK’s Best Workplaces™ for Women list was launched this morning by Great Place to Work® UK, recognizing Synthace among 263 ranked organizations.

    What This Recognition Means

Today's results are a significant recognition of Synthace’s standing as one of the UK’s best places to work for women. Through both quantitative and qualitative analysis, Great Place to Work® has recognized Synthace as an organization where people trust each other and are able to reach their full human potential, no matter who they are or what they do. We care deeply about supporting the different identities women hold, and ensuring their daily experiences are positively and consistently experienced.

So far this year we have:

    • Established a diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) Committee that steers our DEI strategy, including addressing how to achieve our goal of gender balance
    • Formed an internal DEI Community—Women in Science and Tech—which is tasked with raising awareness, finding initiatives to encourage more girls to study STEM subjects, and organizing internal celebrations and events centered around women
    • Continued to offer enhanced maternity pay for women and flexible working to all our employees to help them balance work and life as parents, or in general (flexible start and finish times, flexibility on location, and weekly hours)
    • We now also offer 1 paid volunteering day per year to all our people. Recent examples include teaching primary school kids how to code and hosting a robotics competition for teenagers.

    What Synthace Employees Say

In answering the survey that Great Place to Work® delivered to determine their results and rankings, Synthace team members were given the chance to leave optional comments. Here are just a small selection of responses from some of the women in our organization:

“The people are exceptional and overall, the environment feels positive and supportive.”

“Excellent people to work with, who are smart, kind, and fun. A mission to really feel good about. A very supportive environment from colleagues and the management team.”

“An opportunity to make a difference and work with amazing people where we can all learn together.”

Reflecting on today’s results Becky Farnea, Director of People and Culture at Synthace said:

“While this is fantastic news for us at Synthace, it’s important that we remember how this is a journey and not a destination. The wider tech and life sciences industries are not always great places for women to work in. According to a PwC Women in Tech report, only five percent of leadership positions in tech are held by women and only three percent of women students would go into tech as their first career choice. At Synthace, with 44% female representation at leadership level, we’re fortunate enough to be ahead of these statistics and we are grateful for this incredible recognition from Great Place to Work®. Today’s news is a fantastic and positive milestone on our journey toward the truly diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture that we want to build here at Synthace.”

As Benedict Gautrey, Managing Director of Great Place to Work® UK, explains

“Now in its fifth year, our 2022 list showcases the largest collection of Best WorkplacesTM for Women that the UK has ever recognized. These results are based on what women themselves have anonymously reported to us about their workplace experience and how well represented they are in the workforce and management.  Ensuring people aren’t discriminated against, placing positive value on our differences, creating fair access and advancement for all, and fostering a sense of value and empowerment in employees is what being a Great Place to Work® is all about. Only by first identifying the gaps in workers’ experiences can organizations truly take action to close them, which is why analyzing employee experience is important. We are proud that the data and insights we provide organizations helps on that continuous journey - and it’s wonderful to celebrate so many Best Workplaces™ for Women this year, across all sectors and organizational sizes.”

    About Synthace

Synthace is a cloud-based experiment platform that enables life science R&D teams to do experiments that would otherwise be impossible. It helps scientists innovate faster by automating high throughput experiments, structuring complex datasets, and allowing them to use powerful methodologies—like Design of Experiments—all within their browser. The Synthace platform fundamentally transforms and improves the relationship between what a scientist can imagine and what they can actually do in their lab. This means that instead of spending hours working with pen, paper, and pipettes, they can spend that time focused on answering the questions that will solve humanity’s most pressing problems.
